Community Capacity Building Overview

The City of Parramatta Council offers an Annual Community Grants Program aligned with the financial year period. This program funds local initiatives that enhance our community's vibrancy, inclusivity and resilience. The Community Capacity building grant offers up to $15,000 and aims to: 

  • Support community-based groups, sport and recreation clubs, and service organisations to develop effective projects that address the social, economic and/or environmental needs of residents in the Parramatta LGA, as described in City of Parramatta Council's Community Strategic Plan; 
  • Maximise access to and use of community resources, services and facilities, including equity of access for people experiencing social exclusion, marginalisation or isolation;
  • Encourage community participation in the development and delivery of projects and activities;
  • Support the development of networks and partnerships between communities, local community groups, agencies and City of Parramatta Council 

Assessment Criteria

Criteria 1 - NEED 25%

  • Application demonstrates a clear need or opportunity for their project in Parramatta and provides supporting evidence.
  • The project aligns with the grant category objectives.

Criteria 2 - ENGAGEMENT 25%

The application details connections with: 

  • Relevant Parramatta-based organisations or groups, including partners, and how these will support delivery of a successful project. 
  • People from the target group in Parramatta and the level of engagement with them. 

Criteria 3 - IMPACT 25%

  • Location of the project (venue/ward/LGA) is clearly identified, the reason it is happening there and the benefit to local communities/target group to have it there. 
  • Demonstration of the necessary skills, capacity and knowledge of the applicants and partners and partners to deliver the project in Parramatta.
  • Intended outcomes (community benefits) are clearly described, relevant and realistic. 
  • Targets and collection methods are reasonable and appropriate. 
  • Project activities are clearly described along with how these will create the intended outcomes. 

Criteria 4 - VIABILITY 25%

  • Extent to which the budget is cost-effective, realistic, and reflects expenses relevant to the delivery of the intended project outcomes. 
  • Sustainability of the project outcomes beyond the funding period is addressed.
