City of Parramatta's Preventing Violence Against Women Grants 2017.
GUIDELINES
PURPOSE OF PROVIDING FUNDING SUPPORT
The Preventing Violence Against Women Grant program will resource and support the work of ‘everyday’ services and groups so they can take action to prevent violence against women: It will provide 10 successful applicants with funding, resources and support to develop and deliver strategies or resources that fit with what they are currently doing and address one of the following aims:
- Foster children, young people or adults’ positive personal identities and challenge gender stereotypes and roles
- Strengthen positive, equal and respectful relationships between girls and boys or women and men
- Promote women’s independence and decision-making in public life and relationships
- Challenge the condoning or normalisation of violence against women
- Promote and normalise gender equality in public and private life
WHEN IS THE PREVENTING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN GRANT PROGRAM RUNNING?
The Grant application period opens on Monday 3 April 2017 and closes on Friday 5 May 2017.
Successful Grant activities will be delivered between 1 July 2017 and 1 December 2017.
WHO CAN APPLY?
There are 3 eligibility criteria:
- You need to be one of the following:
- An incorporated not for profit community based group or club for community members or a community based service or organisation
- What if my group, club or organisation isn’t incorporated? You can’t apply BUT you could find another group or service to auspice you. Contact us for more information.
- A Social enterprise
- A Peak or representative body for either of the above
- Provide activities, resources, goods, services or programs to people in the City of Parramatta local government area
- Have no direct involvement in providing domestic and family violence related services or violence prevention programs
This means a lot of different types of groups, organisations and services are able to apply, including those working with women or men - or both - and those working with children or young people.
Here are some examples:
- a local community sports club or team for children, young people or adults
- a support group for people with a disability
- a playgroup or early childcare centre
- a Parents and Citizens association
- a new mothers, parents or grandparents support group
- a social networking group from a specific language, cultural or ethnic group
- a network or service or agency working with LGBTIQ communities
- a spiritual or religious organisation or group
- a social action or advocacy network
- a social enterprise
- a representative or peak body for one of the above
Applicants are required to have an appropriate level of insurance for any funded activity. Evidence will need to be provided.
WHAT FUNDING SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE?
- Up to $6,000 for successful applicants is available
- The total pool of funding support available from City of Parramatta Council is $60,000.
ADDITIONAL SUPPORT AND RESOURCES
The City of Parramatta Council is committed to achieving industry best outcomes in partnership with grant recipients. We are also committed to evaluating this Grant Program outcomes. To achieve this, Council will be providing to all successful applicants the following:
- Training programs: two training programs will be delivered providing basic information on violence against women and the framework to prevent violence against women; appropriate services and referral pathways for survivors and Grant evaluation strategies. All Grant recipients will be required to participate in these two training programs.
- Additional optional workshops/ learning forums: depending on the activities Grant recipients will undertake, we will offer workshops on topics as required.
- Networking and showcasing of Grants: All Grant recipients will be encouraged to attend networking opportunities to meet and share learnings with other recipients.
- Grants monitoring; individual support and consultancy and assistance with Program management. The Grants Project Officer will work closely with Grant recipients and provide tailored advice and support as required.
WHAT CAN YOU APPLY FOR?
There are many different ways you could meet one of the aims of the Grant. We want them to fit in with your current aims and work: Here are some examples- please discuss your idea with the Preventing Violence Against Women Project Officer.
- A sporting club works to attract more girls to join its team
- A Parents and Citizens association runs an awareness raising campaign on the work of women volunteers
- A specific cultural group holds a forum to bring isolated community members together, celebrate the role of women in their community and promote other training and learning opportunities
- An early childcare centre runs a staff training program on how to promote gender equity including increasing fathers involvement in the centre and children’s play
- A sporting club introduces a new annual award for best female player
PREVENTING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN GRANT CRITERIA
Applications will be assessed against the following:
- All activities must be designed to meet the aims of the Grant as stated above.
- The people you are aiming to work with should be involved in the planning and implementation of your Grant strategy or activity.
- Budget estimates should be based on the cost of operating your strategy or activity and you should indicate other funding and any in kind contributions.
- The City of Parramatta Council or its employees, contractors or representatives will be responsible or liable for any loss, damage or claim suffered or made by any person which arises out of, or is in connection with any strategy or activity which is organised, co-ordinated or funded by the funding recipient.
- Activities and strategies must be located within the boundaries of the Parramatta Local Government Area and/or principally service Parramatta residents.
- Council supports programs planned and delivered in partnership.
ASSESSMENT PROCESS
- Applications received will be processed by Council staff to determine their eligibility.
Applications will be assessed by Council staff and an external consultant providing expert advice on the prevention of violence against women. This panel will make recommendations to Council and Council will then make the final decision.
- Council reserves the right to alter the total amount of funding support expended based on the applications received.
- All applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application by 20 June 2017.
TIMELINE
Monday 3 April 2017: Application period open.
4:00pm Friday 5 May 2017: Applications close.
May- June 2017: Applications assessed.
20 June 2017: Applicants advised of outcome.
1 July 2017: December 2017: Grants projects delivered
